Welcome to our services today!

Well the Rugby World Cup is in the final throes. With the All Blacks and Argentina playing last Sunday night, the café made only 6 coffees after the 7pm service! So we’ve decided not to open the café after the evening service today or next week (go the Blacks!!). For these two Sundays our evening service will run from 7pm to 8pm which allows us all time to put on the black face paint before the game kicks off.

There is life after the Rugby World Cup! In our evening service on Sunday October 30 we are delighted that Christopher Wright will be speaking to us. He was born in Northern Ireland and is currently the director of Langham Partnership International (founded by John Stott). He is one of the world’s leading theologians on Mission, and we’ve been trying to get him here for 2 years! I hear that he is an excellent communicator, so please diary this one now.

In our morning services we will be praying for our Elders. They meet at least monthly and have responsibility for ‘Relational Governance’ for the whole church. Relational governance involves having many relationships with people in the church and good relationships with the leadership and pastors, then bringing the understanding and insights from these relationships to the overall governance of the church. We want to acknowledge again the important role they play around here and commit them once again to God.

We had hoped to have a family camp in February but with all the extra demands this year, the alterations to the Auditorium in January and prior commitments of some key leaders and camp organizers, we have had to step back from running a whole church camp in 2012. We really wanted to make camp happen but it is just not going to be possible.

I’m away with Sandra next week tramping the Tongariro Crossing and a few other tracks up north. Since turning 50 a couple of weeks ago I feel the need to prove I can still do it!

Also, a big happy birthday to Murray Robertson who turned 70 last week.

Grace and Peace
Alan

GLOBAL MISSION
Richard and Sally returned to Bangladesh in June to a Christian Theological College near Dhaka where Richard is teaching. Sally writes…
The land around our house has had water lying stagnant for the last 3 months and the college flooded this year due to a new neighbour blocking off a culvert that helped drain our property.

It’s good being able to recognise some people now. I often stop and talk with the children and some of the women have invited me back to their homes. My Bengali language is gradually improving and I am able to say and understand more. Icontinue to teach English and am looking at doing the CELTA course to become a qualified English teacher.

Please pray for the book Richard is writing helping Christians defend/explain their faith in a Muslim country and for improved language ability for Sally.

COMMUNITY MINISTRY
Preschool Music and Movement
How wonderful it was for our families to be spoilt by the wonderful team from Figtree! All the children were given a knitted 'Trauma Bear' that came named and the parents were treated to morning tea. What a blessing it was! Wonderful too for our ever dedicated team of volunteers to have a few extra pairs of hands on deck. Thank you so much Linda, Jo, Joan, Pam and Mary for you commitment to our families on a Wednesday morning.

We return after the school holiday break to a short term before, dare I say it, CHRISTMAS holidays! It has been a tiring year and we are all looking forward to summer coming.

Preschool Music and Movement runs on a Wednesday morning during term time at 9.30am and 10.15am. If you have any questions or are keen to join our awesome team of volunteers please contact Stacy 9808025 or email
