| WELCOME | |
Welcome to the second week of our global mission focus. This week Matt and Ruth and family left for France. They will live there for a year to learn French which is one of the official languages of Chad. In October next year they hope to move on to Chad where they will learn a different local language. This is a huge God-inspired adventure - one that completely daunts me. Please continue to pray for Matt and Ruth especially over the first few weeks. I hear the night market was great fun and packed with people last Saturday and that Diane’s message on Sunday morning was enormously inspiring. If you missed it you can find it on the church website (www.spreydon.org.nz) or buy it on CD from the Media Centre. Today we have Chris Clarke, the NZ CEO of World Vision, speaking at our morning services and Rob Kilpatrick from World Vision Australia speaking tonight. Next Sunday a team from Fig Tree church in Australia arrive to support our church. This is a massive encouragement to know 22 people are coming to care for us. We will be welcoming them at the nine o’clock service next week. Please be there for the start. There is a prophecy of another earthquake being passed around by email. I mentioned it in my prayer letter last week (you can get my weekly prayer letter by subscribing at prayer@spreydon.org.nz). The positive side of this prophecy is that it could encourage us to pray, to listen to God carefully and to enter conversations where it is talked about offering hope and calming fearful reactions. The negative sides are that it can incite fear, especially for those who live alone, are frail or are already anxious. It could also bring a negative spin to the Christian church and faith in Jesus. I do not see any indications that this is a word from God, it does not appear to link with the biblical framework for prophecies - it offers no sense of hope, it presents a very judgemental and punitive view of God and is not being endorsed by Christian leaders or prophetic leaders in the city. I suggest you ignore it, but support those for whom it has raised fear and anxiety. On a much different note, congratulations to Batin Carpenter who after 3 and 1/2 years of hard work at CPIT, has completed the "Work Skills" course and gained her certificate. Well done! Grace and peace Alan |

| THE HUB CAFE | |
| Ten years old and a new manager! Fifteen years ago folk returned from the Willow Creek church with a God-inspired vision for a cafe at Spreydon. The present day Hub has evolved from those early exciting days when a small group of enthusiastic dreamers began to set up a cafe every Sunday night in the auditorium for people to meet, greet, eat, have fun and build relationships. The vision to create a permanent space to practise Kingdom hospitality became a reality ten years ago this week. God has been so faithful, encouraging us with an army of amazing committed hard-working volunteers blessing us with many opportuntites to serve the other church ministries and providing us with awesome dedicated and capable managers – Bronwyn, Vicki and Julie. Today we are very pleased to announce the appointment of David Holland as the new manager. David has been part of the cafe team for 3 years and has encouraged us with his spiritual journey. We pray God’s rich blessing on him as he takes the cafe forward on the next stage of the journey. |
