WELCOME

Welcome to our last weekend of the Global Mission “Making A Difference” series. This morning we have Annie Hilton from Freeset in Kolkata with us. Kerry and Annie went to Kolkata to live and work among the poor in 1999. After quite unintention¬ally moving into a red light area in the city, they developed a passion for finding ways for women to become free of the sex trade. Freeset was established in 2001 and works to provide freedom opportunities for women trapped in prostitution through employment (predominantly making bags and Tee-shirts - check out www.freesetglobal.com). They now employ 180 women and have just celebrated their ten year birthday. I had the life changing experience of seeing Freeset last year when the leadership team went to Kolkata. Annie is an incredible woman of compassion and vision. I’m really looking forward to her sharing with us. Ants is going to be wrapping up the series for us tonight.

You may notice a team of people from Aussie amongst us today. They are from the Figtree Anglican church, in Wollongong, New South Wales. Our children’s ministries sent a team last year to help with their July holiday programme and this year their church felt to come here and minister to us instead of doing their holiday programme. They are coming as a team of cooks, kids’ ministries leaders, prayer teams, builders and tradesmen, gardeners and cleaners to bless our staff, volunteers and community after the earthquakes. They have also raised their own funds to pay for the food they will be cooking, bringing tools to use and leave behind for us. They are organising shows for the kids in SHARP, preschool and other groups during the week. They gave a significant contribution to us after the earthquake and will leave any funds raised that are left over for us to use as needed.

These are two stories of groups of people who have chosen to Make A Difference with their lives. What difference are you going to choose to make?

Go well

COMMUNITY MINISTRY

Cross Over Trust
With all the up and downs this year it was great to be able to celebrate with 100 children and their parents at Family Night. It was a great team effort with our families providing the MC, cooking food and helping set up which made the night even more meaningful.

A big thank you to our church family who helped cook the vegetables, to Paper Plus and Fresh Choice Barrington for their contributions and to the Cross Over staff each playing their part in the night. The All Blacks could learn something from this team!

The night included a spit roast and dessert, a banner competition from the children, a Rugby World Cup Quiz, a slide show of the year that was and to finish the night off - a family photo.

Our vision: Thriving, self-sustaining local communities where youth, children and their families feel they belong.
