| WELCOME | |
Gidday, Flip it’s great to have seen the sun so much this week! It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes. I hope you have all been able to take some time to enjoy it at some stage. We’re into the second half of our Life Together in Mission series, with Colin Burt sharing in the morning services today on the topic of Relocation, and AJ continuing the theme in the evening. It’s hard to believe but it has been a year since the first Christchurch earthquake. This has been a tremendously tough year for our city and its people. At the initiative of the local leadership of the major denominations in our city there will be combined services held all over the city to come together with other churches and remember our loss and celebrate our hope together. So in the evening service on September 4 we’re combining with Grace, and hopefully a few other local churches, for a “Celebration of Hope” service. There are DVDs being produced with messages from local leaders and well-known Christians, as well as input from local people. It’ll be great so please plan to come. Our Global Mission focus starts in two weeks, with the Night Market on Saturday September 10. This is always a highlight of the year so book it in now and invite your mates. It’s a great night of food and fun. This is not to be missed! This will be followed up with days of prayer and three Sundays dedicated to focusing on what God is doing in the world and how our lives can make a difference as we partner with him in his mission. So we hope to see you a lot over that time. Until then, enjoy the sun and look after each other. Cheers Ants |

Nathan & Bronwyn Graham Kabul, Afghanistan We are tired, from our holiday! Well, I guess the travelling back is more accurate. We took leave during this holy month of Ramazan, as we knew it would be a time when less can be achieved as people are tired and not at their best. The days remain long and hot, which means each day of fasting is long and thirsty. In July, Nathan was welcomed into Lahore, Pakistan by the local police. With all the correct visas and documentation, a bribe was paid. (Nathan was unaware of this.) Corruption is relatively high in Central Asia, with Afghanistan being ranked second most corrupt in the world. Coming from one of the least corrupt countries (NZ), it can be quite a mind shift to realise that justice is something that can be bought and sold. Overall, Nathan’s trip to Pakistan was a success, with him purchasing the essential equipment for producing the parabolic panels for the solar cooker business. The business is continuing to move forward and we rejoice in the ability, with help from you, to be able to invest in this country in this way. |

Christmas Grotto Praise God that the Grotto can still go ahead and bring great Christmas memories to the community of Christchurch. Thanks for interest from the community and the desire in so many to come; we have already had people wanting to book. Pray for the children who have been badly affected by the earthquakes, pray that our changes will enable them to be able to come and enjoy the Grotto. (Many found the Grotto too dark and scary to go into.) We are building new sets which are taxing our abilities; much research and new learning is required. Pray we can get these new sets up and running. We are in the process of buying lots of things from overseas. Pray for the quick safe arrival of these items. Some other things we are having made seem to be taking a long time. Pray they will get made quickly and we can get them on their way to NZ. |
