WELCOME

Gidday everyone,

It’s good to have you here today. Thanks heaps for all the support over the last few weeks of Global Missions. At the moment we have had $387,000 promised for this coming year. That is fantastic! The generosity of Spreydon people always blows me away. If you didn’t manage to get your slip in yet please still do. Every dollar above $350,000 can go to supporting projects and developing our next generation of global workers. Nearly 100 people signed up to pray for our people. If this was you please sign up at the Info Centre to receive the newsletters from the people you want to support. Thank you so much for this - it means so much to our people overseas and to us all as a church family.

Today at 11am baby Caleb Jordan is being dedicated (his mum Hilary leads worship on Sunday mornings), and we are also stoked to be celebrating with Rebecca Thurston at 9am, Sarah Davenport at 11am and Marcus Burton at 7pm as they get baptized. I hear there could be couple of Grace people also getting baptized at 7pm.

It’s been fantastic having the 22-strong team from Figtree Anglican in Wollongong Australia here with us for the last week. They came in response to the earthquake, and have worked all day and half the night serving our community, doing everything from cooking meals for pastoral care, providing food for and helping out at various ministries, digging liquefaction, gardening, electrical and plumbing work, house cleaning and prayer with groups and individuals, and lots more. All the food and all items needed for gardening and repairs were funded by their local Lions Club! You guys have been awesome and a huge blessing to us, so thanks so much for making the trip across the ditch.

In the first week of the school holidays we are going to be reroofing the Auditorium - the first part of the Auditorium maintenance and upgrade. The need for reroofing is urgent. It is being funded from rent paid by Grace Vineyard. We will insulate at the same time. Scaffolding will be erected this Friday and the work should be completed in a week or so.

Chris and Ibrani Barus are off to Indonesia tomorrow morning for seven weeks. Have a great time guys!

Cheers,
Ants

GLOBAL MISSION

David & Barb Howe, Daniel, Caleb, Heather and Jennifer
Murree Christian School, Pakistan

They have almost all the staff they need for this school year. Visas are something that they never take for granted, and they are very grateful to God for acting on their behalf in this.

David had an accident in his car which led to new opportunities. He was returning from Peshawar after some good visits with friends. After he hit a concrete median strip, his car needed to be towed to the nearest garage. While some willing mechanics worked on the car, David was invited into a local hostel where he met some new Pushtuns. He was later able to visit again and leave them with a movie called the Hope.

David is taking on the role of Principal of the school as well as Director this year. The former Principal has returned to New Zealand, for his wife’s retirement, so they are greatly missed!! Barb is enjoying doing some PE teaching this year and the children are enjoying friendships and activities at school.

COMMUNITY MINISTRY

Spreydon Youth Community (SYC)

SYC has had a great term with loads happening, from awesome fun youth group nights, a combined night for all of SYC to get together, to Winter camps through to all the All Blacks games being shown live at our youth house which has been transformed into a grandstand. All three Youth Communities headed away for a fun weekend together, with great discussion and exploring faith, fun competitions and activities, tobogganing, skiing, and geek themed dinners.

Coming up we have St James tramp in the first week of the holidays, and the second week is Soul Survivor - a time to connect with God and get into some serving the community on the East side of the City. For more info check the website www.syc.org.nz
