WELCOME

Gidday everyone,

Welcome to our Parihaka Sunday. This morning Lionel Stewart will be speaking about Maori/pakeha relations, and tonight Alan will tell the Parihaka story, an amazing world-leading story of non-violent resistance that happened right in our back yard. Today also the Paper Crane takes flight. This is a new Spreydon publication hoping to raise awareness and discussion around issues of justice in the world. This is specifically written for young adults (the editor is an amazingly talented 21 year old!) but open for everyone so feel free to grab one and have a read. I think the articles are fantastic. I hope you find them challenging and inspiring.

Next weekend is of course Show Weekend, and “the Gathering” (formerly known as Baptist Assembly) will be in town. A couple of Baptist pastors from elsewhere will be speaking here next Sunday – in the morning will be Grant Harris, from Windsor Park in Auckland, a church the same size as ours, and in the evening will be Peter Mihaere, who heads up Tranzsend, the Missions arm of the Baptist Union.

Then Sunday November 20 we are holding a Vision Day, reflecting on the year that has been, and looking forward to next year. It would be great to see you at one of the services on that day.

I got invited to my first Christmas break-up the other day, out of it! Christmas is coming!!!! Time to start thinking about all the things coming up for Christmas. The Grotto has started the hunt for volunteers, the café will need extra help through the Grotto time, and the Giving Tree is up in the foyer where you can leave unwrapped gifts that will go out with the mercy baskets this Christmas. Thanks so much for all the gifts that came in last Sunday –amazing! If you know of any struggling families who would benefit from a Mercy Basket this Christmas, please call Sheryl at the church office on 338 4163.

For most of this year we have been combining with Grace in the evening service, sharing the leading and preaching. Recently Grace have been focusing on their evening service at their Beach campus, so we are returning to leading all evening services again.

Have a great week and enjoy the holiday on Friday. Keep looking after each other

Cheers
Ants

GLOBAL MISSION

Morag Paton
YWAM Perth

In a few hours I head off to New Zealand for a 2 week break, flying via Sydney there and Brisbane on my return for a few days either side.

It’s been exciting times in the office getting back into the “grind” of office work and recruiting teams to come to London for Megacities 2012. The Olympics will be on from July 27 to August 12 while we are there. Almost all of the 33 boroughs in London are ready for teams to come! There are a few that need more prayer and breakthrough, but it’s looking good.

When I return to Perth in mid-November our entire base will be preparing to move to our new building. It’s a HUGE feat as 350+ people move premises.

NIGHT MARKET. $2875 was sent to Tear Fund's Horn of Africa famine appeal from the Night Market!!

COMMUNITY MINISTRY

Building Blocks Community Trust

As I reflect on 2011, it is amazing to see how God has blessed us in so many different ways and given us far more opportunities to connect and support our families in hugely different ways (despite the funding cuts). We have the amazing privilege and are thankful for the reciprocal relationships we have with both SBC and other agencies/services we journey with.

This year along with growth in playgroup, play gym, and the existing two centres we have also successfully opened the Building Blocks Community Kindergarten which is rapidly growing with families from the immediate area. Our staff have been amazing as they have juggled home and work on those crazy days and they have truly often gone the extra 20 miles!

Please pray for us as we plan for the end of year, that Jesus would continue to shine through and be known by our communities. Chris Reid.
