WELCOME

Gidday everyone,

Welcome to our services today, the second week in our series from 1 Thessalonians. Today there is a prayer and healing focus in our services, and there will be opportunities for personal prayer. Today also marks the start of the school holidays - what a long term it has been. A special thanks to all our children’s leaders - you have earned a well-deserved break. You do such an awesome job.

It’s been great to see so much activity around our local village journey - the many ads for neighbourhood lunches in the newsletter are a sign of lots of new life for this journey. Last week alone Beckenham, Eastside (great curry thanks) and Barrington got together. I see Riccarton Norhwest are lunching today. This journey is very much one step at a time and it is so encouraging to hear about so many meeting, praying and eating together!

The combined Grace and Spreydon Men’s breakfast is next Saturday October 15 at 8am in the Café. Come for a fantastic breakfast and hear David Mitchell from Grace and Bruce Apperley from Spreydon speak. Get your ticket today for $12 from the Info Centre.

There is still opportunity to put in your response to the Global Missions giving for the next year. Pick up a pledge form today from the Info Centre, or put one in the offering bowl if you haven’t done so yet.

Today is also the last day to sign up at the Info Centre for the Global Leadership Summit, an annual event from Willow Creek, happening this Friday October 14.

We are getting down to the business end of the Rugby World Cup and we are very glad the organisers have arranged the times of the All Blacks games for after the night service. So I know at least half of you will join with me and wish the All Blacks well tonight.

Cheers,
Dave

GLOBAL MISSIONS

Sione & Evelyn Lalahi
Nuku’alofa, Tonga

A nurse specialist in strokes has encouraged them to look for a pattern for Sione of plateau/improvement/plateau going on for at least two years. He is getting better at resting between activities, and that is what enables him to achieve more.
Sione is working frequently with a local group in developing a "helping strategy".
Both Sione and Evelyn are involved in lots of interceding and have seen a healing or two and other turn-arounds in lives.
Evelyn is spending hours with new co-ordinators/elders at English church (they are such learners) and getting libraries sorted and people in Vaevae Manava up to standard auditing accounts.
They have re-arranged part of the house so their daughter Elisabeth and her husband Villi can have two small adjacent rooms for themselves and the expected baby. The young couple plan to move back next week, two weeks before Sione & Evelyn leave for their break. They will arrive in Christchurch on November 6.
